The rapid increase in the demand for propylene has resulted intechnology for the on-purpose production of propylene. We developed a multi-function catalyst that can convert methanolinto light olefins (including both ethylene and propylene),transform the ethylene into propylene, and crack C4+ hydrocarbonsinto propylene [7]. In this way, we developed amethanol-to-propylene (DMTP) technology in which a stagedfluidized-bed reactor was designed to maximize the performanceof the catalyst based on the experience obtained from the DMTOreactor scale-up, as different operation conditions are requiredfor methanol conversion and ethylene conversion. In addition, aseparated fluidized-bed C4+ cracking reactor was implementedto convert the C4+ byproducts into propylene. The pilot experiments(with a scale of 300 t/a methanol feed) were completedby the end of 2015, and the results showed that an overall propyleneselectivity of 75%–80% could be achieved. This technology isnow available for licensing in the market.
