Methanol-to-olefins (MTO) reaction, as one of the most importantreactions in C1 chemistry, provides an alternative platform for producing basic chemicals from non-petroleum resources such as natural gas and coal. Catalyst is one of the critical constraints for the process development, determining the reactor design and the profitability of the process. Since the early 1980s, DICP has continued to carry out the research on MTO reaction, reactor and the relevant catalyst. A 2000 t/a catalyst manufacturing plant (catalyst code: D803-C-II) was started up in Dalian in 2008. Based on the DMTO catalyst, DICP completed 10 kt/a DMTO demonstration in 2005, and the world's first 1.8 MT/a DMTO plant was successfully put into production in 2010. The excellent performance of the DMTO catalyst has been clearly demonstratedbyindustrial DMTO units.
To further improve the economic competitiveness of DMTO process and promote the development of coal chemical industry, DICP launched the new generation of DMTO catalyst (catalyst code: DNL12C-VII-02 ) in 2018 through continuous technological innovation. The new generation of DMTO catalyst has the characteristics of high activity and high olefins yield. Through the technology license, a 5000 tons/year catalyst manufacturing plant has been put into production, and produced qualified catalyst products. The new generation of DMTO catalyst was put on the market in 2019. At present, it has been successfully applied in several industrial DMTO units, and shows a significant decrease in methanol unit consumption for producing one ton ethene and propene. The application of the new generation of DMTO catalyst can enhance the economic profits of DMTO units by hundreds of millions of yuan per year.
